You are in Ruby Country, the unspoilt rural heart of Devon. The cottage is set next to a working farm, with excellent flora and fauna, a bird watchers paradise. There is an excellent cycle path and well marked walks around ancient woodland and across farms. The cottage overlooks Dartmoor, Okehampton (or Oke to the Devonians) is the gateway to Dartmoor, here you can enjoy hiking or cycling across the Granite Trail to explore the moor. Hatherleigh is the nearest town, with a weekly farmers market which is well worth a visit (you can buy local farm produce or a cow if you wish). In the Autumn there is the Hatherleigh Carnival, the heat from the tar barrels as they are raced through the town is an experience not to be missed. Bude is within easy reach, Bude has an excellent beach and all year round surfing, right next to Bude is Sandymouth Bay with its spectacular National Trust beach.
